재귀대명사 단복수 형태 및 용법
주어와 목적어가 동일 인물/대상일 때 사용하는 재귀대명사 형태표입니다.
단수 (Singular -self)
- •myself, yourself, himself, herself, itself
복수 (Plural -selves)
- •ourselves, yourselves, themselves
A. 재귀 용법 (주어 = 목적어)
문장의 주어와 행위를 받는 목적어가 동일한 사람/사물일 때 재귀대명사를 사용합니다.
George cut himself with a knife while cooking.
조지는 요리하다 칼에 자신이 베였습니다.
I fell over and hurt myself.
넘어져서 내 몸을 다쳤습니다.
Be careful! Don't cut yourself.
조심해요! 자해(다치지) 말아요.
They enjoyed themselves very much at the party.
그들은 파티에서 매우 즐거운 시간을 보냈습니다.
She looked at herself in the mirror.
그녀는 거울 속 자신을 바라보았습니다.
B. 강조 용법 (by myself = alone)
주어를 강조하거나 '혼자서, 도움 없이'를 뜻할 때 [by + myself/yourself...] 구문을 씁니다.
I went on holiday by myself. (= alone)
나는 혼자 휴가를 갔습니다.
Do you live by yourself?
혼자 사시나요?
He repaired the car himself. (emphasis)
그가 직접 차를 수리했습니다.
She solved the problem by herself.
그녀는 스스로 문제를 해결했습니다.
C. each other (상호 대명사) 와 구분
myself/themselves(자기 자신)와 each other(상호 간에 서로서로)의 구별법입니다.
Tim and Sue looked at each other. (Tim looked at Sue, Sue looked at Tim)
팀과 수는 서로를 바라보았습니다.
Tim and Sue looked at themselves in the mirror.
팀과 수는 거울 속 자신들의 모습을 바라보았습니다.
We know each other very well.
우리는 서로를 매우 잘 압니다.
