총칭적 개념 (NO the) vs 특정 개념 (with the)
세상 일반적인 전체 개념과 특정 상황의 대상을 나타낼 때 관사 차이입니다.
일반적/총칭적 (NO the)
- •I like music. (음악 일반)
- •Cats are smart. (고양이 전체)
특정한 대상 (with the)
- •I like the music in this film.
- •Feed the cats. (우리 집 고양이)
A. 일반적/총칭적 개념 말하기 (무관사)
음악, 스포츠, 과목, 복수명사의 전체 종류 등 일반적 개념을 말할 때는 the를 쓰지 않습니다.
I like music. (not the music)
나는 음악을 좋아합니다.
I hate exams. (exams in general)
나는 시험이 싫습니다.
Bananas are yellow.
바나나는 노란색입니다.
Do you like classical music?
클래식 음악 좋아하세요?
Football is a popular sport.
축구는 인기 있는 스포츠입니다.
B. 특정화된 대상 말하기 (with the)
어떤 한정된 장소, 특정 상황에 있는 특정한 대상을 가리킬 때는 the를 사용합니다.
I like the music in this film. (specific music)
나는 이 영화에 나오는 음악을 좋아합니다.
The exams were very difficult.
그 시험들은 매우 어려웠습니다.
Pass the sugar, please. (the sugar on the table)
설탕 좀 건네주세요.
The water in this river is dirty.
이 강에 있는 물은 더럽습니다.
Look at the apples on that tree.
저 나무에 달린 사과들을 보세요.
C. most + 명사 (NO the)
대부분의 사람/사물을 뜻하는 most 뒤에 명사가 올 때도 the를 쓰지 않습니다.
Most people like music. (not Most of the people)
대부분의 사람은 음악을 좋아합니다.
Most cars have four wheels.
대부분의 자동차는 바퀴가 4개 있습니다.
Most shops close on Sundays.
대부분의 상점은 일요일에 닫습니다.
Most tourists stay in big hotels.
대부분의 관광객은 큰 호텔에 머뭅니다.
